The 2nd Best Mascara in the World!

Tuesday, July 28, 2009 1
Wanna save a couple of bucks? Yes, we know Dior has the best mascaras in the world, but Prescriptives has one that comes in a VERY CLOSE SECOND...In fact, I find it easier to use than Dior.

Prescriptives False Eyelashes Plush Mascara

This mascara does not clump, and leaves lashes so thick, soft and noticeably longer. Actually, it really is like you're wearing falsies. LOVE IT!

Dreamy Skin from LUSH Cosmetics

Monday, July 13, 2009 0
If you suffer from dry skin, eczema, or problem skin, I've got just the cure for you...but it's gonna cost you! Lush Cosmetics will clear up your skin and leave it baby soft with a one, two punch. Punch number 1...hop in the shower and slather Lush's Dream Wash Shower Smoothie all over your body. The cream has the consistency of pudding and it really doesn't take much to cover your entire body so an 8.8 ounce package of the stuff will last you a long time, and that's a good thing considering the price...$18.55. But beware, if it's lather you are looking for you won't find it in this "body wash." It cleanses wonderfully without actually lathering. Here's the product description:

Herbal and softly floral body wash gives troubled skin a break. In your dreams you have perfect skin: soft, smooth, with no bumps or flakes. We're usually born this way, but achieving baby-soft skin later in life often requires a bit of help. If scaliness, breakouts or dullness are a problem, try this cleansing smoothie to help restore your skin's beauty. Loaded with beneficial essential oils like lavender and chamomile, this fragrant shower cleanser gently but effectively alleviates your skin's worst problems.

This stuff is true to its product description and a definite keeper if you have problem skin or if you are like me and your skin begs for more in the dry winter months. I will say that the smell is more herbal than flowery...almost a bit medicinal, so some of you may be a bit turned off by that, but the product does rinse clean in the shower so the smell doesn't really stay with you.

Punch number 2...Dream Cream Body Cream. Now this stuff definitely has a herbal/medicinal like smell and because it's a cream the smell will linger with you for a bit. I suggest using this stuff at bedtime if you don't want to smell a bit like an old lady. My daughter has eczema and this stuff has worked its magic on her skin! Here's the product description:

Light and herbal body cream miraculously restores sore skin. We take every natural ingredient aimed at transforming dry, bumpy and unhappy skin and combine them all into an epidermal elixir of excellence. This moisturizer helps you banish alligator elbows and impress that special someone with your baby-soft skin. Use a small dollop every night before bed and find your skin silky and comforted within days.

This stuff is the TRUTH and I will gladly pay the outrageous price of $22.55 for 8.4 ounces of the Dream Cream anytime!! Again so y'all know I actually use this stuff...here's my stash!

SHIMMYSHEA...."Shea What Yo Mama Gave Ya"

Wednesday, July 8, 2009 0
There is nothing more lovely than beautiful brown skin that glistens in the summer sun, and a diva armed with fierce shades and glowing skin is unstopable!! Shimmy Shea is a must have product for your summer skin, and if your are lucky enough to live someplace where the sun smiles on you year around then this stuff should be a staple product for you!
Shimmy Shea is a shea butter based product infused with oils and shimmery minerals to produce the most luscious, moisturizing cream I've come across. The shimmery minerals dance across exposed skin for the perfect sunkissed complexion.

The ladies of Shimmy Shea created their product specifically for women with olive to mahogany skin tones and have come up with creams that cater to a variety of skin tones. You can choose from 4 different ShimmyShea Shades to find the one that complements your skin best. I purchased the Bahian Bronze Shimmer and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I slather the product on skin that will be exposed in the summer sun, like my legs, arms and chest. My husband can't get enough of this stuff ladies...whenever I wear it he says "you look lickable."

Besides a stellar product these ladies have outstanding customer service! For the first time ever, I ordered something and it never found its way to my door step. I contacted the company and they had confirmation that my product had shipped and had in fact been delivered to my home...who knows what happened to the original order, but Prachel with ShimmyShea wanted to make sure I tried their product and shipped a new order out right away...THANKS PRACHEL!!! Not only did they send my requested item, but they also included free sample of shea butter as well as the Strawberry Honey Shimmer which came in a perfect tin size for travel (I took it to Vegas with me).

I heart this stuff. It gives the skin the perfect amount of shimmy without looking like a damn stripper. No offence to strippers but when you are flirting with 40, you can't have all that glitter mess all over you! Again, so y'all know I not lying about using the product, here's my stash!

Lush's Aromacreme Deodorant

Thursday, July 2, 2009 0
This is a prime example of why free samples are so important!! When I received my order from Lush Cosmetics they threw in a few freebies, one of which was a deodorant. I should start off by saying that as a general rule I don't like my deodorant to smell like anything...I have no desire to walk around smelling like baby powder or some odd mountain fresh scent. I should also mention that I am what I call a "stinky girl!" My sweat stinks! There is no such thing as a two day deodorant for me. If I were to go two days without showering my pitts would be ripe...hell I would be down right funky. When I wash my tops, tee's and blouses, I add a cup of white vinegar or baking soda to the laundry to ensure that no residual funk lingers and that the armpit area on my shirts don't turn yellow. I digress, but I thought that you should know that I take deodorant and underarms VERY SERIOUSLY!
Anyway the nice folks at Lush sent me a sample of their Aromacreme Deodorant. My main problem with this deodorant is that it is just to damn fragrant for my taste...note the product description:
Neutralizes odors with absorbent, micro fine scented powders. Aromacreme solid deodorant is a beautiful combination of micro fine powders in a moisturizing almond oil and shea butter base. It not only perfumes your armpits with exquisite flowers and neutralizes odors with absorbent powders, but it keeps your armpits soft and supple too. Take a small blob and stroke it onto dry underarms. It sticks, stays, and makes you smell lovely.

First let me give it its props...a little of this stuff goes a long way and for those of you who are concerned with having soft and supple armpits, this stuff is a keeper thanks to the shea butter and almond oil.
As a stinky girl my primary goal is to have my deodorant fight odor and this stuff will do just that, but its scent is way to over powering for me. You should not...I repeat NOT wear any other fragrance when wearing this deodorant..it's that damn pungent. I smelled like this deodorant all damn day! I could actually smell the floral fragrance of my armpits and the scent was not one I would have personally chosen as a primary fragrance and this deodorant acts as a primary fragrance!

The sample I got was enough for 3 applications...maybe even 4, and yes I wore the deodorant on 3 separate occasions. First because I am cheap and not going to waste perfectly good deodorant and second because I wanted to be fair in my review. For those of you who like heavy scented lotions, body butters and perfumes, you will love this stuff...otherwise I would say you should pass on this product. The good news is that you can go into a Lush Store or a Lush Counter and get a sample before committing to the $11.25 price tag for 3.5 ounces.

Instyler, the rotating flat iron - Review and Demos

Friday, June 19, 2009 0

I’m sure you’ve seen the infomercial for the Instyler. In a moment of weakness I caved to my late night hair product cravings and purchased the Instyler online.

What I Like:
  1. It is a nice, substantial piece of equipment, not at all cheap feeling. We’ve all been burned before…buying something online only to have it arrive and be a piece of crap.

  2. It comes with a carrying pouch & special comb.

  3. There was an option to order the quick heating model, which of course I did.

  4. It has variable heat settings.

  5. There is a BOGO special, two for the price of one. I couldn’t resist.

  6. The brushes are pretty great, they really work to help smooth the hair before and after the rotating iron makes contact.

What I Don't Like:

  1. It claims to be able to be used on wet hair. I tried it on my wet hair; it didn’t dry my hair, just boiled the water on it. I have an ION wet/dry flat iron that is AMAZING. NOTE: If a flat iron does not have vents for the steam to escape, it is NOT FOR USE ON WET HAIR. Without the vents, it is frying and damaging your hair.

  2. After using it (wet or dry), my hair seemed to be in worse condition. I even tried different heat settings, with no better results.

  3. It took me a few tries to figure out that it works better when I made sure that I was holding the iron so that it rotates in the direction that the hair grows. Otherwise, it was slightly teasing my hair…this is not noted in the directions, and makes for awkward positioning depending on the section of hair you are ironing.

Overall:

I did not like the Instyler. I think I will stick with my ION wet/dry flat iron, and rollers. On the flip side, my 12 year old daughter likes it…guess I’ll give the extra one to one of her friends.

The Instyler can be purchased at GetInstyler.com.
